Greentown Elementary School, United States explains our country's special holidays and festivals to our friends.
Thanksgiving is a holiday in America.
We celebrate Thanksgiving because the people called pilgrims discovered America! They helped Squanto an Indian build houses and other things. Squanto helped them get food like turkey, fish, eel, and corn. Then on every November 25th we have those kinds of foods and we are thankful for every thing and food we have. Sometimes we buy gifts and give it to the people we love on Thanksgiving! My birthday is on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a holiday. People eat turkey, corn, mash potatoes, noodles, and my favorite carrots. Then we play football outside. Sometimes we play baseball downstairs. Then when it is dark we play Ghost in the Graveyard.
--The End--

Thanksgiving is where relatives get together and give thanks to who helped our country.

It wouldn't be Christmas in America without Christmas music! We love to go caroling during the holiday season. Caroling means to get a group of people together who walk from house to house singing Christmas songs for the people who live in the houses. Here is a small video clip of Nicholas S. and Family singing Jingle Bells, one of our favorite Christmas carols!

December 31st, New Year's Eve, is a time of celebration in the United States. At midnight we watch the television to see the ball drop at Times Square in New York City. Some people shoot off fireworks at midnight to welcome the New Year. Many people eat pork with sauerkraut on New Years Day to bring them luck during the New Year. Welcoming the year 2000 was very exciting this year. Many people were worried that the computers would all crash because of the Y2K "bug" but nothing bad happened at all! We were glad.
We were so excited when the mailman brought us a package all the way from Japan! There were so many stamps and stickers on it that we enjoyed just looking at the package itself. When we opened it we found that our friends had sent us many exciting handmade toys, games, foods and other items that showed us how they celebrate the New Year in their country.
Here are some pictures of the fun we had with our gifts.
Thank you to our new friends in Japan for making these wonderful gifts for us!
