Hong Kong, 23 May 2000 Hong Kong students met fellow cyber schoolmates face-to-face this week when youngsters from America, Australia, Canada, India and Japan jetted-in to accept trophies at the AT&T Virtual Classroom Contest 1999-2000 awards ceremony.
Students from Canadian International School of Hong Kong, greeted the winning pupils from overseas who collaborated in cyberspace to design web sites. The students from Canadian International School of Hong Kong were presented with an Honorable Mention certificate today in recognition of the outstanding design of the website they created together with students in Israel and America. Honorable Mention certificates were announced today as well as Grand, second and third prize awards.
Over 8,000 students from 300 schools worldwide participated in the AT&T Virtual Classroom (VC) Contest this year including 118 schools from the Asia/Pacific region. Now in its fourth year, the AT&T Virtual Classroom competition is an Internet-based contest where students from around the world work in teams online to share ideas, learn Internet skills and create web sites on issues that concern them.
Major sponsors of the AT&T Virtual Classroom are Hewlett Packard, Newsweek International, Outblaze and White Pine Inc. Other sponsors include Times Information Systems and JW Marriott Hotel.
Representative of AT&T Asia/Pacific, Ms. Darcy Hausselman, presented the Honorable Mention Award to Jewei Lee (left) and Christopher To (right) of the Canadian International School for their outstanding website design in the Secondary School category. The Canadian International School has also been awarded a Special Merit Award for Design in the Primary School category.
Ms. Jennifer Li, Director of Public Relations of Outblaze, presented the Grand Prize trophy to one of the student representatives from the Gakushuin Girls High School (Japan), Kumiko Ishikawa, in the Secondary School category.
Asia Editor of Newsweek International, Ms. Dorinda Elliott, presented the Grand Prize trophy in the Primary School category to Zoya Singh, representative of the Sanskriti School in India.Representatives of winning teams from Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Hong Kong and the United States met each other for the first time at the AT&T Virtual Classroom Contest 1999-2000 awards ceremony luncheon this week. Ms. Dorinda Elliott, Asia Editor of Newsweek International, Ms. Stella Yang, Director of Adverstising of Newsweek and Ms. Jennifer Li, Director of Public Relations of Outblaze expressed their full support for the event.
